Objective
Stratospheric ozone levels over the region of Europe are profoundly influenced by lower stratospheric temperatures and the stability of the polar vortex, as ozone loss is sensitive to the threshold nature of polar stratospheric cloud (PSC) formation and denitrification. This coupling is very important with respect to the evolution of climate over the next fifty years. The MAPSCORE project will enable European scientists to fully exploit existing datasets from field and satellite campaigns by providing maps of PSC properties, maps of denitrification, new observations of PSCs, and fields from chemical data assimilation for entire winter /spring periods. These datasets will provide added value in the form of new products enhancing existing datasets.
