Formaldehyde as a tracer of photooxidation in the troposphere

Objective

There are still uncertainties regarding the processes behind troposphere ozone formation. The aim is to increase our insight into these processes . The main objective of FORMAT is to obtain better knowledge of the regional and global distribution of formaldehyde, an important intermediate in the oxidation of hydrocarbons to CO and a source of oxidative radicals. This can lead to better prediction of smog episodes and to better quantification of emissions from biomass burning. A socio-economic WP will quantify the benefits from the project. The objectives will be reached by measurements and modelling . Measurements will be done from the ground, aircraft and satellites . 3-D chemical transport models will be used: a regional model covering Europe and a global model. FORMAT will give better insight in ozone formation processes and hence give better prediction of smog episodes.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
