Vulnerability of ecosystem services to land use change in tradional agricultural landscapes

Objective

VISTA aims to compile an integrated assessment of the vulnerability of European traditional agro pastoral landscapes to land use change (LUC) that will assist land managers and policy makers in their sustainable development strategies. VISTA will use Plant Functional Traits (PFT) to predict the dynamics of and the services provided by these landscapes. We will: 1-Analyse published and newly collected data to identify relationships and mechanisms linking Pets, response to LUC, and effects on ecosystem functioning; 2-Design, test and disseminate trait-based indicators of changes in ecosystem services in response to LUC; 3-Based on new scenarios integrating ecological, socio-cultural and economic data, generate LUC projections to assess, in concentration with stakeholders, the vulnerability of ecosystem services within and across regions.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)
