International meeting on canyon systems 2001

Objective

This proposal is directed at the preparation and organization of the CANYONS 2001 meeting. The CANYONS 2001 meeting will bring together a number of selected, internationally recognized EU and US scientists in the fields of canyon research. The CANYONS 2001 meeting will result in a State of the Art assessment of the role, functioning and importance of canyon systems for ecosystem functioning and for the sustainable use and exploitation of the marine ecosystem. This assessment will be prepared by the partners in this proposal in the form of a Report, which will be distributed to participants and relevant organizations in the EU and abroad. This Report will also be disseminated electronically.
