Objective
It is recognized that life strategies, heteromorphic life cycles and behaviour strategies (i.e. ent-excystement rates, vertical migration) play a key role in Harmful algae blooms (HAB) occurrence and dynamics; The interaction between different life history-stages and their relationship with the physical, chemical and biological environment are a very important element for the success of harmful species. In spite of the key role that life history strategies play in bloom dynamics, information on the life history of most European HAB species is fragmentary. LIFEHAB will be a forum of debate between European specialists in life history strategies of micro algal species causing HABs. The main goals are: to find out gaps in current knowledge, to determine the most appropriate methodologies, to identify future HAB research strategies in Europe and to promote the development of co-operative initiatives in that topic.
