Objective
The DEMOS project will address the need for innovation and sustainability in urban governance in a European society suffering increasingly from democratic deficit, citizen dissatisfaction and policy fragmentation. Project partners form 3 interlinked spheres of action research: city test sites, research & evaluation framework, and advisory & dissemination forum. Core partner cities will implement & test innovatory mechanisms for participatory local governance, using an Innovation Development Fund. Research partners will continuously assess & feed back on the partner cities' organisational processes and outcomes & provide them with training. Associate partners will contribute to the project's audit of existing good practice & the pool of ideas for innovative actions to be piloted. All core, research & associate partners, jointly with a wider network of interested authorities, will disseminate the transferable project results, aiming to build the findings into integrated policy-making.
