Mediterranean network to assess and upgrade the monitoring and forecasting activity in the region

Objective

Sustainable development requires the intelligent management of the marine environment, protecting the marine ecosystem and minimising the impacts of climate change and human use of resources. Operational ocean monitoring and forecasting based on sound science, reliable assessment, and efficient co-operation between nations, is the main tool for a better management. In the Mediterranean, the basis of a pre-operational forecasting system is developed by ongoing RTD projects, but still coastal areas coverage and integrate efforts of all bordering countries are lacking. This proposal catalyses co-operation through all Mediterranean countries to identify gaps in the present capability and enhance ability in observing, modelling and forecasting the ecosystem; raise awareness on the benefits of ocean forecasting; disseminate results and products; upgrade the infrastructure to underpin further research towards the design of a viable ocean now casting/forecasting of the state of the sea, according to end-user needs.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
