UNDERSTANDING NITROGEN AND CARBOHYDRATE METABOLISM FOR LEGUME ENGINEERING

Objective

The overall objectives of this grain legume project are :

- to analyze the capacity of selected legume seeds (pea and fababean) to
accumulate storage products (sink-source relationship);
- to analyze the relationship between carbohydrate and storage
protein/nitrogen metabolism at the level of gene expression;
- to isolate and evaluate promoters for temporally and spatially regulated
gene expression in seeds and;
- to use these promoters, in combination with existing and new gene sequences,
to specifically change sink capacity and/or storage product composition in
legume seeds, as a pre-requisite for quality improvement and engineering into
seeds of exogenous high-added-value components.

The project therefore seeks to increase the understanding of the relationship between carbohydrate and nitrogen metabolism in the seeds of the temperate European grain legumes pea and fababean, the long-term objective being the improvement via directed manipulation, of legume seed composition for agriculture, including food and non-food uses.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
