Objective
THE PRESENT PROGRAMME IS A CONTINUATION OF THE RESEARCH CARRIED OUT IN THE FRAM EWORK OF THE SECOND (81-84) AND THE THIRD (FIRST PHASE, 86-87) CEC R&D PROGRAMM E (CONTRACTS NO 302-83-15 WASB, 324-83-55 WASB, FI1W0100). IMPORTANT PROGRESS W AS REALIZED ON THE LUCIDATION OF THE CORROSION MECHANISMS IN CLAY MEDIA (CLAYWA TER WITH AND WITHOUT CLAY) OF VARIOUS CANDIDATE HLW AND TRUW GLASSES, TAKING IN TO ACCOUNT SUCH FACTORS AS TEMPERATURE, SAV (SURFACE AREA TO VOLUME), REDOX PO TENTIAL. THE TESTS WERE DONE AT DIFFERENT LEVELS: WITH INACTIVE GLASSES, WITH T RACERED GLASSES, IN THE PRESENCE OF AN EXTERNAL GAMMA IRRADIATION FIELD, OR INSITU (IN THE UNDERGROUND LABORATORY IN CLAY UNDER THE MOL SITE).
THE 88-89 PROGRAMME AIMS TO CONCLUDE ABOUT THE CORROSION MECHANISMS AND THE RAD IONUCLIDE RELEASE ("SOURCE TERM") OF VARIOUS WASTE GLASSES IN CLAY. THE PRESENC E OF CANISTEROVERPACK CORROSION PRODUCTS IS CONSIDERED, AS WELL AS THE PRESENC E OF AN EXTERNAL GAMMA IRRADIATION FIELD. THE CORROSION OF SOME FULLY ACTIVE GL ASSES IN CLAY WILL BE EVALUATED, RELATIVE TO THE INACTIVE SIMULANTS. THE IN-SIT U PERFORMANCE IN CLAY WILL BE FURTHER STUDIED. THE FOLLOWING WASTE GLASSES ARE STUDIED: THE AVH SON68, THE PAMELA SM513 AND 527, AND FLK WG124.
1. CORROSION EXPERIMENTS IN VARIOUS CLAY MEDIA, WITH ATTENTION TO THE LEACHING OF THE MATRIX COMPONENTS (SI, B, FE,...) AND OF THE RADIONUCLIDES (PU, TC, NP,. ..). TEMPERATURES ARE 40, 90 (REFERENCE) AND 150 CELSIUS DEGREES; CORROSION PRO DUCTS OF STAINLESS STEEL, CARBON STEEL AND TITANIUM ARE INCLUDED.
2. CORROSION EXPERIMENTS IN CLAY MEDIA WITH FULLY ACTIVE SAMPLES OF GLASSES SON 68 AND SM513 IN THE REFERENCE CONDITIONS APPLIED UNDER 1. (90 CELSIUS DEGREES, REDUCING CONDITIONS, SAV = 100 M-1).
3. CORROSION EXPERIMENTS ON WASTE GLASSES IN CLAY IN INTEGRATED CONDITIONS, (1) IN AN EXTERNAL GAMMA IRRADIATION FIELD, IN THE PRESENCE OF CANISTEROVERPACK C ORROSION PRODUCTS AND BACKFILL, AND (2) FOLLOWING THE CEC STANDARD PROCEDURE FO R THE REPOSITORY SYSTEM SIMULATION TEST, USING ACTIVE GLASS.
4. IN-SITU TESTS IN THE UNDERGROUND LABORATORY IN CLAY, AT VARIOUS TEMPERATURES (ROCK TEMPERATURE, 90 CELSIUS DEGREES, 170 CELSIUS DEGREES) AND IN TWO MEDIA ( HUMID CLAY ATMOSPHERE AND CLAY).

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
