Further development of the data base EC DB TOOL and collection of technological performance data from the decommissioning of nuclear installations

Objective

The decommissioning of nuclear installations covers a wide range of different technologies applied to special dismantling tasks. The knowledge, skills and experience of i experts and investigators are needed for a safe decommissioning and to minimize human and| environmental load as well as waste and costs. Therefore a close cooperation and information exchange between decommissioners is required. Data bases for collecting and providing data can help to ensure an EU-wide access to decommissioning data. Two projects have been funded by the European Commission within the framework Decommissioning of nuclear installations' to develop such data bases.
The objective of this project is to continue, improve and extend the data base on cutting in tools and associated filter systems for dismantling (EC DB TOOL). It is envisaged to include decontamination and recycling techniques to cover all main technological performance data from the decommissioning of nuclear installations in the data base.To extend the possibilities of use the application and the suitable vocabulary shall be translated. into French, Italian and Spanish.
The project partners shall bring together their special knowledge and experience in the main working tasks:
- Data base development
- Data collection
- Revivion and updating data
- Initiation of EU wide interaction for testing the data base
The data base development shall be continued based on the current EC DB TOOL (ORACLE software) as it has been developed by Uni Han. To test the use of PC orientated software a small version shall be developed in parallel, possibly with MS ACCESS software as used by UKAEA and CEA. Part of the data base improvement shall also be a translation into French, Italian and Spanish and a revie to include national demands.
The data collection shall cover worldwide decommissioning projects with an emphasis on european activities. For this the contacts of the project partners can be used to improve the delivery of data.
The data included in EC DB TOOL shall be revised and updated to add decontamination and recycling data as well as new software features. To prepare an EU wide use of the data base the potential of the Internet for a data exchange or an on-line use shall be examined. To guide the users, a manual in different languages shall be prepared.
Since the data base shall be usable after the end of the project the partners shall establish a users group that will maintain the data base and provide the benefits of the collected performance data to interested applicants.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
