Data assimilation for off-site nuclear emergency management

Objective

The proposed work attempts to introduce a practical improvement in the real time on-line decision support system (RODOS) by developing and integrating a data assimilation capability for off-site nuclear emergency management. This project covers three areas of interest for data assimilation : in the early phase, deposition and food chain and in the hydrological model chain. It is expected that the outcome of this R&D work will result in a clear improvement on the assessment of the radiological impact of an accidental release of radioactivity in both terrestrial and aquatic environments. It is expected that the use of a common data assimilation approach, the Kalman filter, will result in a coherent and harmonised methodology that will increase the acceptability of the RODOS system by European Emergency Response Centres and this will facilitate its implementation throughout Europe.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
