European nuclear thermodynamic database for in- and ex- vessel applications

Objective

To solve problems of fuel degradation, ex-vessel fuel spreading, core catcher resistance, fission products retention or release, etc. The phase diagrams of the key elements of the corium must be known. These phase diagrams can be determined directly or indirectly via thermodynamic measurements and models. The objective of ENTHALPY is to merge the 2 corium-oriented thermodynamic databases existing in Europe in one European commonly agreed database, to extend it to key in- and ex- vessel elements, to complete the missing or contradictory data by Separate Effect Tests (SET), to validate the database against global tests and to effectively couple the database to Severe Accident codes in a fast, accurate and convenient way. The accent is put on thermodynamic: equilibrium condition, specific thermodynamic-oriented methodology and techniques (Differential Thermal Analysis, High Temperature Mass Spectrometry, etc.)
