Core LOSS during a severe accident

Objective

R&D work for 1300-PWR, BWR, VVER on risk-relevant core degradation issues is proposed with experiments at different scales up to integral tests.
Selected topics with large databases uncertainties are:
a)impact of high burn-up on UO2 and MOX dissolution
b)identification of fuel or collapse conditions
c)oxidation of B4C by steam and B4C control rod degradation / oxidation with related gas generated (H2, CH4,..) U-o-Zr oxidation kinetics.
Topics b) and c) include different plant design components. The lack of exp. data means also non-validated or missing models in SA codes in spite of safety consequences e.g. H2 rate or production of CH4 with favour organic Iodine formation. Models developed will be implemented in SA codes. Expected results: 1/H2 and B4C decomposition gas release during core collapse, 2/ B4C/burn-up/collapse models included in SA codes, 3/ >Feedback on safety and consequences on AMMs for various plant designs.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
