Objective
The goal of this proposal is the achievement of a sound scientific and practical coupled approach, based on a recently proposed modelling taking into account the coupling of thermal-hydraulics and physico-chemistry, to describe corium behaviour in in-vessel and ex-vessel situations. Thanks to a better understanding of physical phenomena governing corium progression and behaviour in various configurations (for example: in the lower head of the reactor pressure vessel, in the reactor pit of existing reactors or in the EPR core-catcher), the coupled approach shall allow a better prediction of risks and consequences in particular in term of corium stabilization and fission products release. Therefore, this approach shall contribute to the optimisation of severe accident mitigation measures.
