Isolation and characterisation of genes and proteins that are expressed in Fusarium culmorum under different growth conditions

Objective

The primary goal is to gain information about the processes that are induced in Fusarium culmorum under different growth condition causing stress. Protein profiles will be developed by 2D gel electrophoreses for Fusarium culmorum subjected to different types of stress. This information will be correlated to mycotoxin production and fungal morphology. Differential display technology will be established for this fungus to isolate fungal genes that regulate fungal stress responses.

Current knowledge on stress-induced processes in fungi is limited and there is a need to understand these processes to evaluate the use of bio-control agents in plant production and to develop optimal culture conditions for fungal cultivation. The specific aims are: Identification of target proteins as indicators of fungal stress Characterization of genes that are regulated by fungal stress factors.
