Partitioning: new solvent extraction processes for minor actinides

Objectif

In the framework of the development of new Partitioning & Transmutation strategies of the nuclear wastes generated after reprocessing of spent fuels we propose to develop solvent extraction Partitioning processes of americium and curium. These elements are present in the high active effluents issuing the reprocessing of the spent fuel at the trivalent state. Consequently, their separation from these acidic effluents from the other elements (fission products), and particularly the trivalent lanthanides (Ln(III), is a difficult task. We propose to develop multi- cycle processes able to separate these elements from acidic raffinates or concentrates.

The main extractants to be developed are:
(i) the diamides,
(ii) nitrogen polydendate ligands,
(iii) acidic sulphur-bearing ligands.

Combinatorial synthesis will be used to prepare selective extractants. Basic research and process developments will be carried out for all the systems studied.
