Objetivo
This project aims to develop and validate a reliable and robust model to predict the radionuclides (RN) release rate as a function of time for the spent nuclear fuel (RN source term), which can there after be used in the performance assessment exercises for repository systems.
The development of such source terms models requires:
(i) a scientific consensus of what are the major mechanisms and
(ii) the acquisition of key parameters by dedicated experiments on real and simulated spent fuel.
This project will focus on the major scientific issues for the RN source terms:
(i) the evolution with time of the Instant Release Fraction which is instantaneously released when water arrives,
(ii) the mechanisms governing the grains alteration and the subsequent RN release the solubility controlled or radiolytic dissolution,
(iii) the development of a global, robust and consensual predictive model for the RN release rate from spent nuclear fuel.
