Objective
The labour demand of firms is measured by the net employment changes between t(0) and t(l), but they are accompanied by large worker inflows and outflows. The empirical specification of labour demand ought to include gross worker flows, in order to explicitly consider the heterogeneity of the labour force.
The final aim of this research field is to estimate a simultaneous mode of labour demand, wage supply, worker turnover. This research aims to enhance the understanding of gross worker flows, by studying accession and separation on individual data and linking them to job flows (via the vacancy chain) on aggregate data.
This research will be set against its theoretical background, it will contain a survey of the main works on this topic, it will compare its results with similar empirical studies on other countries. Empirical estimates will be the core of the research: it will be carried out on a 1:90 random sample of workers of private Italian firms; this is a panel of 200,000 workers observed in 1985-1991 period.
