Objective
We propose to study theoretically and experimentally the dynamical behaviour of a single element VCSEL coupled to an external coherent field, and the coupling among the different elements of a linear array. These studies will improve our knowledge about the non-linear response of semiconductor materials in their interaction with an electromagnetic field. On the other hand, we expect that the coupling with an external injected field will allow us to prove that their dynamical behaviour can be described as one corresponding to an excitable media. This would be the same way as it was described for chemical reactions and liquid crystals. If we apply our knowledge on those media we will be able to generate high intensity pulses and propagate them undisturbed through the medium and we will be able to show how counter-propagating pulses may annihilate each other or 'penetrate' through the medium depending on control parameter values.
