Seismic imaging of ridge collision and subduction across the margin of central chile

Objective

Large earthquakes and tsunamis along the Pacific margin of Chile endang its centers of population and economic infrastructure. I propose to investigate a seismogenic region of the Chilean margin. This work will augment the international CONDOR project. This proposal is focussed on the 2D and 3D wide-angle seismic reflection data to better understand earthquakes occurence.
The primary scientific objective of the proposed work is one of earthquake hazard evaluation through detailed seismic imaging to investigate its relationship with earthquake nucleation. Moreover, there are also important objectives related with the training content of the project as I will be able to learn specific 2D and 3D processing techniques which are not available in my country. Furthermore, the geological situation and the great amount of supporting data will allow good methodological and structural results which will be applicable in the future to other areas.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
