Objective
A 3-D Navier-Stokes code was developed and validated during the period of the two years Human Capital fellowship spent by the applicant at the Technical University of Aachen (RWTH). The return TMR grant proposal should allow the transfer of the expe- rience gained by the candidate during his stays in Germany and previously in France.
The research work will be carried out at the Laboratory of Thermal Turbomachines at NTUA which has a long time experience in CFD, especially as it applies in turbomachinery flows. The code will be adapted to such flows. Special attention will be devoted to model properly the tip clearance region and the phenomena associated with it. In a first stage a multi-domain structured grids approach will be developed and validated on a number of test cases. In a second stage the research work will construct the basis for a code dedicated to 3-D turbomachinery flows based on the unstructured grids approach. The algorithms will use the same numerical scheme and turbulence models as the ones used in the parent code. The entire work will also benefit from the recently acquired computational infrastructure of NTUA to promote code efficiency and parallelization.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
