Objective
The discovery of the Antarctic 'ozone hole' has emphasized the importan of the coupled effects of chemistry and dynamics in the stratosphere. The aim of this project is to carry out theoretical experiments simulating stratospheric conditions such as PSC formation, increase in the background aeorosol presence of an aircraft fleet,... in the framework of an interactive global circulation/chemistry model including particle formation and decay.
The CNRM is particularly appropriate for this purpose as it is the location where the French Community Model ARPEGE has been developped. This model is at present in the process of being coupled with a stratospheric chemical code.
Given its competence in the relevant fields, the scientific team of the CNRM would provide the most beneficial environment to the applicant.
A two-year research period svould allow both the completion of the mode coupling and the use of this tool to assess some realistic stratospheric situations.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
