Semi parametric methods in microeconometric analysis and its application to the relationship between education and earnings

Objetivo

The visit proposed under this fellowship is to improve the ability of Irish applied economists to conduct microeconometric analysis in general, and, in conjunction with young researchers in Maynooth, to apply new semi-parametric methods to analyse the rate of return to education in particular.
The intention would be to give a short series of talks to academics and graduate students throughout the greater Dublin area. These would explain microeconometrics from first principles and would culminate in a survey of recent advances in semi-parametric and non-parametric techniques. A couple of applications would be presented and a demonstration of software developed for this purpose would be given. The fellowship would allow time for support of interested local users.
The further intention is to have an impact on the technical abilities of as wide a range of applied economists as possible, reflecting the wide applicability of the methodology. In addition, more detailed attention would be given to applying the methods to the question of the impact of education on earnings in conjunction with a team of young applied economists at Maynooth.
