Objective
The decline and de-industrialisation of mining areas in the European Union is a process quite known and studied since the l950's and 1960's, depending on the country. Most often the studies focused on the economic history of the mining industry firms as well as the types of problems those areas currently suffer.
In the last years the European strategies have adopted a renewed approach and point to the regeneration of the areas. In such context, each mining area's actors need to evaluate costs, limits and opportunities of the policy and adopt decisions with a vision of the future.
The research we are proposing consists of developing alternative Scenarios about the future of the territorial structure, the economic activities, employment and research and technical developments required the mining areas of Castilla-Leon. The research shall contribute to the decision making of the Regional Government of Castilla-Leon and to design of its strategy and priority investments in the Mining Areas.
