Droplet driven jets

Objective

Droplet-driven jets are used in many engineering processes to create and disperse droplets. For many of these applications it is necessary to control the dispersion of the droplets. There is therefore an urgent need to improve models for droplet dispersion in droplet-driven jets. I propose to investigate some of the fundamental processes controlling the formation of droplet-driven jets, the dispersion of the droplets and the interaction of the jet with a cross-flow. In particular, I will investigate the mean flow and the structure of the turbulence induced by a spray of droplets, the interaction between the droplets and the turbulence, and the effects of a cross-flow. The results will be compared with results obtained for particle-laden jets, and with some of the simple models already proposed for droplet-driven jets. The research should lead to better practical models for droplet dispersion in sprays.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
