Objective
NOVEL CATALYSTS CONSISTING OF NiMo OR CoMo SULFIDES SUPPORTED ON OXIDES SUCH AS TiO2, TiO2-A12O3 OR ZrO2 HAVE SHOWN TO EXHIBIT SUPERIOR HYDROTREATING ACTIVITIES THAN CONVENTIONAL ALUMINA SUPPORTED NiMo OR CoMo CATALYSTS. HOWEVER, THE RELATION OF THE CATALYTIC PROPERTIES OF THESE SYSTEMS WITH THEIR PHYSICOCHEMICAL PROPERTIES IS NOT YET FULLY UNDERSTOOD. THIS RELATION DEPENDS ON THE NATURE OF THE ACTIVE PHASE AND ITS INTERACTIONS WITH THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF OXIDE SUPPORT.
THE FIRST OBJECTIVE OF THIS PROJECT WILL BE TO CHARACTERIZE THE NATURE OF THE ACTIVE PHASE AND ITS INTERACTIONS WITH THE SUPPORT OF THESE CATALYTIC SYSTEMS. THE CHARACTERISATION OF THE CATALYSTS WILL BE EF'F'E;CTED BY USING RAMAN SPECTROSCOPY (NTU, ATHENS) ASSISTED BY IR, ESR, HREM, AND CATALYTIC MEASUREMENTS (IRC, VILLEURBANNE).
THE SECOND OBJECTIVE OF THIS PROJECT CONCERNS AN IR/RAMAN SPECTROSCOPIC STUDY OF THE PROPERTIES OF RUTHENIUM SULFIDES DISPERSED IN Y-ZEOLITES WHICH HAVE ALSO SHOWN VERY PROMISING HYDROTREATING ACTIVITIES.
