Objetivo
It is well established that strong Lewis acid act as co-catalysts in the olefin polymerization reactions such as the Ziegler-Natta process. Reactions of some transition metal alkyl systems with BR3 gave catalyst ion pairs such as L2ZrCH3+CH3B(C6F5)3-. In the course of the investigation of the synthesis of these compounds, the group supervised by Prof. Green have found very interesting new reactions which could lead to new catalysts for olefin polimerization.
The objectives of the project are:
1- To prepare new bidentade Lewis acids and study its reactions with transition metal alkyls and hydrides complexes to prepare hipervalent derivates and to explore the ability of this derivates as catalysts for olefin polymerization.
2- To evaluate the general equilibria shown in the Scheme as a way of creating highly reactive unsaturated intermediates.
(M)L + BR3 <-> (M) + LBR3
3- To study the reactions of the Lewis acids with metal carbonyl compounds that might provide new reactivities in metal-carbonyl chemistry. .
