Strong field interaction of van der walls clusters with ultrashort laser pulses

Objective

The study of strong laser-field interaction with simple molecules has been a field of intense research over the past decade. Despite the complexity of the overall process implying both multiple ionization and Coulomb explosion of the molecular ions, the interaction dynamics are now quite well understood. The aim of the present proposal is to extend the study to atomic and molecular clusters. So far, only few but very promising results have been obtained by the group of C.K.Rhodes concerning the multiphoton-induced X-ray generation with rare-gaz clusters and by the group of A.W.Castleman concerning the interaction dynamics of strong laser-field interaction with molecular clusters. We intend to work in this novel, exiting field of molecular physics in the group of D.Normand in Saclay who has access to the high power Ti:sapphire laser facility of the DRECAM and is constructing a new high-resolution mass-spectrometer which allows for studies in supersonic beams.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
