Objective
Iodine release to the environment is one of the most important radiological risks in case of a severe accident in a Light Water Reactor. To be able to predict the physical state and quantity of the released iodine as well as the time of release it is important to study the behaviour of iodine during simulated reactor accidents. The results of these studies will help adopt the appropriate accident management. Results from the first experiment of the Phebus-FP programme show that the iodine behaviour in the containment was not predicted correctly by pre-test calculations. The objective of the proposed work will be to develop l improved models (based on experimental data) for processes currently not well understood to help explain the results from Phebus-FP experiments. These models which will take into account silver/iodine reactions, the effect of rhenium and iodine related mass transfer will be compared with experimental results and implemented in existing computer codes.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
