Bicopper complex jellies and thermoreversible gels

Objective

In the past two years, it has been studied "jellies" obtained from the solutions in organic solvents of a binuclear copper complex. The molecules of this complex tend to pile up and form threads that eventually behave as polymeric chains. There is, however, a main difference in that the columnar aggregates of the complex can break and reform at will unlike covalent polymers. These threads are thus "living" polymers. It has been recently observed that above a well- defined temperature the plateau modulus drops very rapidity. These results have been interpreted by considering that, in addition to columnar aggregation, lateral aggregation occurs between threads, thus leading to the formation of a physical gel with a fringed- micellar structure. Also, it has been observed that the solvent plays a role at the level of the mechanical properties. The research project is twofold:
1.- To study the effect of solvent type and of the lateral group of the complex on the propensity of forming either genuine jellies or thermoreversible gels.
2.- To investigate the effect of a dispersion of these complex molecules into thermoreversible gels of covalent polymers.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
