Development of new detection techniques of atmospheric cerenkov radiation for the improvement of current detectors in high energy cosmic radiation

Objective

The research project I apply for will be developed in the context of HEGRA cosmic ray detector at La Palma (Canary Islands, Spain). The work will be carried out both at MPI/Werner-Heisenberg (Munich) and La Palma, under the supervision of Prof. E. Lorenz.
The project is based on the study of high energy cosmic rays by detecting the particle showers they produce when reaching the atmosphere. This shower can be characterized by the Cerenkov radiation disk that charged particles produce when traversing the atmosphere.
The work will be two folded: On one side, I will join the analysis of current information provided by HEGRA experiment in order to study the sources of high energy cosmic rays. On the other side, I will participate in the development of new techniques to improve detection of Cerenkov radiation disk produced by these atmospheric showers.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
