Studies of actinide compounds with neutron and x-ray synchrotron sources

Objective

The actinide elements and compounds are of great scientific interest, and they have important applications in nuclear technology. Research on these compounds can be very rewarding since many of their properties are little understood.
We propose to study actinide compounds with neutron and x-ray scattering techniques, which provide very valuable information concerning the microscopic properties of matter. One project will be the use of neutrons to study the analogs of the famous heavy-fermion superconductors UBel3 and UPd2Al3 with uranium replaced by neptunium. Work on the magnetic properties of UBe13 will also be pursued.
The developement of state-of the-art synchrotron x-ray techniques for the study of surfaces of actinides will be an other main area of research. These techniques, supplemented by experiments on surfaces, thin films, and multilayers using both neutron and x-ray scattering, will help us understand the nature of interaction between the actines and the surrounding atomic species.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
