Objective
The objectives of the project is to understand the role of the dissolved organic nitrogen in the ocean as a possible intermediate in the sequestration of the carbon in the ocean. We will try to define flows of transfer of the dissolved organic nitrogen in the marine environment and to quantify the main processes implied in the trophic system (excretion, biodegradation). We expect to determine what quantity of the global pool of dissolved organic matter, is really active and could be integrated in the classical diagram new-exportable production and could contribute to the carbon sequestration. The innovative aspect of this work will be the study of the transfers of dissolved organic nitrogen by tracing several pathways of lSN-labelled dissolved inorganic and organic nitrogen through the food web with a new methodology (Slawyk & Raimbault 1995), allowing us to measure the enrichment of the dissolved organic nitrogen pool.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
