Objetivo

QCD is nowadays a well established theory, supported by many experimental data. Nevertheless, a deep understanding of the theory in its low-medium energy range is still lacking, and is probably one of the most challenging and fastgrowing line of research in the particle physics domain. The failure of the perturbative techniques in this regime has led to the development of alternative approaches: among them, the effective theory approach uses the symmetries, even approximate, of the fundamental theory to build a simplified theory, containing new, a priori unknown, couplings. Chiral symmetry for the light quarks and the heavy quark spin-flavour symmetry for the heavy ones can be combined to describe processes involving heavy and light mesons. The couplings entering into the effective theory can be computed by using non perturbative techniques, and in particular we are interested in the so-called QCD sum rules techniques for heavy flavour physics. Aim of the project is to continue the research in this area, in particular by using as theoretical tools nonperturbative techniques. Experimental data are evolving fast, and forthcoming accelerators, like LEP II at CERN and the B-factory, will need a big theoretical effort. Improvements are expected also by studying others nonperturbative QCD effects, as renormalons, associated to divergences of the perturbation theory, or possible mechanisms for confinement, as monopole condensation.
