Studies of gravity in backgrounds with non-zero cosmological constant

Objective

The objective of this project is to bring to a conclusion the goals that were set in the original proposal. The latter was concerned with a detailed study of the thesis that the quantum gravitational infrared back-reaction slowly generates negative vacuum energy which eventually screens a positive cosmological constant and provides a natural end to inflation in the early universe.
So far the perturbative analysis of the screening mechanism has been completed and, using it, real progress is currently being made in obtaining a model for the non-perturbative regime. Such a model will allow a straightforward computation of the relevant cosmological quantities in the early universe. Given the time constraints involved such an objective is quite reasonable.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
