Modelling of solid foams

Objective

A four month visit in early 1997 to the Department of Engineering Materials of IST Lisbon will be devoted to the development of detailed models of solid foams, using much more sophisticated computer models than presently available. The development of such models is a natural continuation of the FOAMPHYS network project under HCM, whose achievements have mostly related to liquid foams.
In addition to offering an opportunity to combine the approaches of the academic physicist and engineer, this interaction will also extend to industrial applications, through ongoing collaboration with Shell. The general objective is to move this subject to a new level of detailed modelling, and specific techniques of relevance to industrial processes (specifically polyurethanes) will be sought.
The candidate, Professor Denis Weaire, has been instrumental in creating a European community of interest in this area, including the HCM network (1994-6) and a new international conference.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
