Development of accelerator physics program in Greece

Objective

IASA succeeded in getting a large amount of equipment of excellent quality (magnets, RF components, linac sections etc.) that is suitable for the construction of a two stage Race Trace Microtron ("RTM") cascade as a c.w. electron accelerator with output energy of about 240 MeV and beam intensity of several hundred microamps. The construction of this machine at IASA would form a central part of this Institute and it could initiate a tradition of accelerator physics in Greece.
The machine most closely resembling the IASA RTM design is the Mainz Microtron ("MAMI"), a three stage RTM (855 MeV, 100 u A) designed and built as a novel kind of accelerator at the University of Mainz, Germany. It was completed in 1990 and is operated routinely since then, showing excellent performance.
The applicant was leader of the MAMI project. He is now retired and would like to support the IASA project.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
