Development of liquid metal ion sources for cluster deposition of ferroma- gnetic materials and their application in a focussed ion beam system

Objective

Liquid metal ion sources (LMIS) are point sources having a high angular intensity. Therefore, they are applied to focused ion beam (FIB) systems. The use of FIB systems using atomic ions is well known, but there has been very little work to date on focused clusters from LMIS. The investigation of clusters from ferromagnetic materials is of much interest for basic research as well as for applications in nanoscale magnetic devices and electronics and for new catalytic compounds. The project is concerned with the formation of clusters from ferromagnetic materials by LMIS, their deposition using a high energy ion optical column with ExB mass filter and the investigation of their physical properties. An attempt will also be made to form permanent magnetic microstructures using the high energy focused cluster beam.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
