Physical analysis and modelling of unsteady turbulent aerodynamic flows around lifting bodies

Objective

The proposed research focusses on the prediction Of high-Reynolds number unsteady turbulent flows around lifting bodies, a domain of high priorily in the aeronautics nowadays. The objectives of the present proposal are: - By employing a promising new approach, the Organised Eddy Simulation, a complete reconsideration of the two-equation turbulence model will be achieved, to predict especially the dynamic stall phenomenon. This will be accomplished through a synergy between the physical experiment for exactly the same flow cases and the numerical simulation, to allow reestimation of the constants of the model for complex geometries as it was done originally for simple and steady state configurations.
- Derive physically adapted transition modelling for upsteam boundary layer region of unsteady flow around aerofoils, especially at a high incidence.
The full phase-averaged Navier-Stokes equations with the adapted turbulence modelling will be solved by an efficient massively parallel code.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
