Synthesis of receptors with nanosize cavities. Transducion of molecular recognition into electronic signals

Objective

Almost from the beginning supramolecular chemistry has been associated with possible applications based on shape-selective interaction between molecules or between ions and molecules. These applications involve the translation of molecular properties to macroscopic level and will lead to new materials or devices. The real challenge is find ways to communicate with individual molecules or assemblies of molecules and exploit events at the molecular level. Molecular electronics, wires, switches, etc., have been discussed and nanostructures already approach this level. The objective of this project is the construction of "three-dimensional architectures" with large, (semi-) rigid cavities (nanosize cavities). In rigid cavities, complexation is often difficult. Therefore the influence of some flexibility and/ or additional binding sites will be studied in order to obtain optimal complexation.
One of the application of these molecules will be to perform (and accelerate) reactions (e.g. Diels Alder) inside of the cavities. Another particular challenge will be the application of these molecules as a possible chemical sensor.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
