Application of the theory of random sets towards the development of image analysis procedures

Objective

Research objectives and content
The aim of the project is to develop image analysis procedures by applying the theory of random sets. Many usual approaches to handle images are of a purely heuristic nature, justified only by their good performance for some practical examples.
The project aims to provide a theoretical motivation for these examples. Theoretical developments in turn will allow derivation of new algorithms and subsequent increase in their performance quality.
The main techniques will be based on the use of methods from random set theory, convex and integral geometry, optimisation, asymptotic statistics and stochastic processes. Although primarily having theoretical aims, the project will include applications to image arising in material sciences physics and medicine.
Training content (objective, benefit and expected impact)
The applicant; will get an experience in modern probability theory and spatial statistics in relation to image analysis applications and the modern software used to perform image analysis procedures. This will allow him to continue researches in this promising direction.

Fields of science (EuroSciVoc)

CORDIS classifies projects with EuroSciVoc, a multilingual taxonomy of fields of science, through a semi-automatic process based on NLP techniques. See: The European Science Vocabulary.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
