An evaluation of the architectural design of a virtual environment for a human-computer interface

Objective

Research objectives and content:
This proposal is for a 12 month extension of the project "The architectural design of a virtual environment for a multi-user human-computer interface (ref: Human Capital and Mobility, duration: 24 months), which resulted in the implementation of a virtual environment (VE) and in a report on the theoretical basis. which led to its design Both the original and the proposed project aim at investigating how environmental and architectural design knowledge may contribute to the design of v virtual environments. as three-dimensional human-computer interfaces to structures of information.
The main objectives of the project are:
a) Evaluating the prototype implementation of the VE through evidence provided b its use. b) Updating the design guidelines arrived at the completion of the original project. by taking into account the results of (a) and accordingly redesigning the interface and implementing it according to the VRML standard c) Writing up a doctoral thesis. which w ill document the literature reviewed during both projects. along w ith the design. implementation and evaluation of the VE and will include a systematic analysis and discussion of all findings and a thesis on guidelines and methodology for the spatial design of VEs. as interfaces to structures of information.
Training content (objective, benefit and expected impact)
The aim of the original and the proposed project is that the applicant develops the theoretical background and the technical expertise which will allow him to contribute to the design of VEs as a member of a multidisciplinary team of scientists.

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
