Engineering and microstructural properties of cements and concretes containing natural and activated metakaolin

Objectif

Although some work has been carried out on the properties of cements and concretes made with pozzolanic cements containing natural metakaolin from the "C" horizon of red soil profiles abundant in tropical regions, their long term properties and performance has not been fully evaluated. Their microstructural properties arising from the hydration process is known to depend on environmental variables and mlx composition; these properties affect the permeability and diffusion characteristics of these cements and concretes. Our study to evaluate quantitatively the relation between microstructure, environmental conditions during hydration and transport properties will allow the prediction of the durability of these concretes and thus provide engineers with the theoretical background for their appropriate use.
The project is also of great potential for application in the developing countries, particularly tropical countries where there is need to reduce the cost of concrete structures.
