Nmr characterization of the transport of fluids through porous solids

Objective

This project will focus on the. determination of molecular displacements in a fluid-saturated porous solid by means of Pulsed Magnetic Field Gradient Spin Echo (PGSE) methods. Contrary to previous PGSE investigations of self-diffusion, the behaviour of fluids flowing under pressure has not been understood to a comparable degree. It will be the aim of this project to determine direction-dependent displacements as a function of time and other parameters like fluid viscosity, and to analyze the correlation between different components. For this purpose, novel implementations of PGSE methods will be developed to allow the measurement of these displacement correlations and characteristics. Experimental results will be compared with numerical simulations of suitable model porous systems; in a further step the developed methods will be applied to a variety of different porous samples for an improved characterization and understanding of fluid transport processes in these important materials. ..

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
