Objective
Research objectives and content The objective is to investigate the approximations and uncertainties entering next-to-leading order (NLO) QCD calculations and to develop an accurate description of jet and hadron production in photon induced reactions. It is planned to perform systematic studies comparing NLO and Monte Carlo (MC) calculations. The leading order QCD based MC program PHOJET will be tuned to agree on parton level with the NLO predictions allowing the detailed investigation of non-perturbative corrections. Since many non-perturbative corrections can be minimized considering hadronic interactions induced by virtual photons, it is planned to extend the NLO framework to these reactions (development of a parton density parametrization for virtual photons, calculation of photon interactions taking into account virtuality and initial transverse momentum.of the photon). The investigation of the virtuality dependence of the NLO predictions in comparison to simulations and experimental data will be used to develop a detailed understanding of the corrections to NLO calculations. Training content (objective, benefit and expected impact) The training objective is to learn the technique of NLO QCD calculations. The author will get the skills to incorporate elements of NLO calculations in his simulation program PHOJET (which is used by many experiments) allowing very precise comparisons between theory and data.

Topic(s)
Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
