Objetivo

Research objectives and content
The interaction of small unsaturated molecules with transition metal compounds is an essential step in a large number of stoechiometric and catalytic transformations of interest. For alkenes, C-H activation could yield alkenyl derivatives whose role in a number of interesting transformations has been disclosed in recent years. In the case of the alkynes, the rupture of one C-H bond would yield alkynyl species which could then transform into vinylidene intermediates. C-H activation of alkenes and alkynes followed by C-C bond formation, in the presence of Rh and Ir complexes of the hydrotris(pyrazolyl)borate ligands (Tp'), represents new reactivity patterns. We intend to fully develop his chemistry by addressing the following points:
1. The synthesis of alkenyl complexes of Rh and Ir by C-H activation reactions of terminal olefins. Alkynyl complexes would also be synthesized by simple methods, e.g. salt elimination. we are mostly interested in preparing Rh(III) and Ir(III) compounds of these kind, containing Tp' and cyclopentadienyl ligands.
2. Generation of highly reactive alkylidene and vinylidene derivatives protonation of respectively the alkenyl and alkynyl compounds indicated above. These results could also be extend to the analogous Ru and Os systems. The catalytic activity of the new compounds prepared will be investigated.
Training content (objective, benefit and expected impact)
While offer me the opportunity to use my knowledge in the chemistry of rhodium and homogeneous catalysis, this period in the group of E. Carmona will permitt me to acquire specialized training in the area of coordination chemistry and organometallic synthesis. It will also give me the possibility to improve my skills in analysis techniques like NMR.
