Objetivo
Research objectives and conbtent
The objective of the present project is to investigate compressibility effects on the structure and properties of turbulance. The most innovative aspectof this study is the use of the DNS tool at relatively high reynolds numbers in complex technical geometries of engineering configurations. By this means a detailled analysis of the energy redistribution mechanisms in compressible turbulance is foreseen, including also non linear effectes. Besides, the effect of anistropic stress will be considered by selecting appropriate test cases. The simulations will be performed with a parallel cell-vertex code using a finite volume method. After a specific study of simulations of compressible siubsonic flows undergoing rapid expansions and compressions are planned.
Training content (objective, benefit and expected impact)
This study aims to develop a better knowledge of compressible turbulence which is one of the most common flow regime but oppositely one of the less studied. Besides, implementation of adequate boundary conditions for compressible subsonic turbulent flows is of particular interset since this problem remains opened. Numerical and physical benefits of such a project are thus obvious and numerous.
Links with industry/industrial relevance
Improvement of the existing turbulence models used in industrial simulation codes.
