Objective
Research objectives and content
Commercial on-demand service providers in a deregulated telecommunication market demand the integration of multifaceted, arbitrarily distributed, and existing systems with flexible electronic payment schemes. Current systems support neither long running (financial) transactions nor open provision of services with end-to-end Quality of Service (QoS) contracts; both essential to service providers. In traditional data management, mediator systems have solved related problems. I propose to deploy and extend this approach. A coordinator will embrace all components involved in the service provision with a rich and flexible transactional framework linked to electronic payment schemes. The new coordinator will allow information users access to new services from combined media, program, and data servers. Training content (objective, benefit and expected impact)
The proposal is based on knowledge and skills I have already acquired and I will be able to improve my research methodology. I will gain both theoretical knowledge of and practical experience in federating multifaceted arbitrarily distributed systems, developing techniques applicable well beyond the proposed context. By linking the federation with electronic payment schemes I will be well prepared for taking on an active part in the emerging European electronic commerce market, supported by excellent contacts with leading European and international researchers and industries.

Funding Scheme
Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
