Organic and inorganic dendrimers - synthesis, characterization, reactivity, applications

Objective

Research objectives and content
Dendrimers can be defined as multifunctionalized monodisperse polymers whose molecular weigh size, topology, flexibility can be rigorously controlled during manufacturing. These macromolecules offer m wide range of possible applications in a number of areas in chemistry, biology, biochemistry and physics.1,2
The project will involve the study of properties of phosphorus containig dendrimers already prepared in the research group in Toulouse, as well as the preparation of new organic and inorganic dendrimers and hyperbranched polymers.
Attention will be focused on the following points:
* Functionalisation of dendrimers cavities and chemistry within the cascade structure. * Functionalisation on the core and reactivity of the resulting dendrimer. * Grafting of phosphorus containing dendrimers on star polymers or related macromolecules. * Use of dendrimers in catalysis. * Use of dendrimers as chemical sensors * Synthesis of new organic and inorganic dendrimers. * Characterization of all new compounds ( mass spectrometry, TGA, AFM, dipole moments). Training content (objective, benefit and expected impact)
Professor Majoral is an expert researcher in the field of dendrimers. The variety of uses for dendritic macromolecules has aroused my interest in these species. On the other hand, I would have the possibility of jumping into this field when I came back to Spain where there are not many groups working in dendrimers

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.

Funding Scheme

Funding scheme (or “Type of Action”) inside a programme with common features. It specifies: the scope of what is funded; the reimbursement rate; specific evaluation criteria to qualify for funding; and the use of simplified forms of costs like lump sums.
