Multi-agent based techniques for distributed adaptive routing

Objective

Research objectives and content
This project's goal is the development and testing of an adaptive multi-agent based technique for real-time routing in internetworked systems. The proposed research represents the continuation of my current work, supported by a TMR grant, focused on adaptive routing in communication networks. I have developed a novel a very promising technique, and this new project is aimed (i) at its complete porting and testing on a realistic Internet-like environment, and (ii) at a better understanding of its essential properties. Moreover, (iii) the problem of generation of real-time car route guidance information in Dynamic Traffic Assignment systems will be considered. This problem has features very similar to those of the routing problem in communication networks. A feasibility study concerning the application of the developed technique to this challenging problem will be realized, using simulators and testing environments available from international projects.
Training content (objective, benefit and expected impact)
This work will allow the applicant both to complete his current research work, supported by a TMR grant, and to extend the application of the very promising technique he developed to another, challenging field. Moreover, this project will support the final phase of his doctoral studies. Links with industry / industrial relevance (22)

Programme(s)

Multi-annual funding programmes that define the EU’s priorities for research and innovation.

Topic(s)

Calls for proposals are divided into topics. A topic defines a specific subject or area for which applicants can submit proposals. The description of a topic comprises its specific scope and the expected impact of the funded project.

Call for proposal

Procedure for inviting applicants to submit project proposals, with the aim of receiving EU funding.
